Game play in Coloretto is simple: Either draw a card to play to a row, or take a row of cards to add them to your collection. A row can have at most three cards, so at some point everyone is forced to take a row. Once all the rows have been claimed, players start a new round, drawing or taking once again. What are you trying to do with these cards? Collect huge sets - but only in three colors as every color beyond the third will cost you points. Jokers are highly-prized as they always match what you want, and +2 cards provide sure points, giving you a back-up plan if everything goes south in terms of the colors you're collecting. Once only a few cards remain in the deck, the round ends and everyone tallies their score, choosing three colors of cards to score positively while any other colors count against you. The player with the high score wins!

The 2-5 players draw cards from a card supply in the middle of the table. During the game, the players try to specialize in a few colors, because at the end of the game, a player can score plus points for only 3 colors; the rest score minus points. The more cards a player has of a color, the more points they score. The player with the most points wins.
First the players decide if they are using the grey or brown points systems. (see table below) Remove the 'last round' marker from the deck and set it aside for now. With 3 to 5 players there's a row for each player in the game. Each row can hold 3 cards. With 3 players, remove the cards of one color from the game. Each player takes one card of a different color and places it on the table in his play area. Shuffle the remaining cards face down and place them face down in the middle of the table as a supply. Deal 15 cards face down from the supply in a stack. Place the 'last round' marker on top of this stack of 15 cards. Then, place the rest of the card supply on top of this. The players choose a starting player by lot. With 2 players, remove the cards of two colors from the game. Before the first turn, each player takes two cards in different colors. There are 3 rows, and can hold 1,2, and 3 cards respectively. When both players have taken a card row, the third row is removed from the game. Cards Points Brown Points Grey 1 1 1 2 3 4 3 6 8 4 10 7 5 15 6 6+ 21 5 Chips can be placed to keep track of the row locations. In 2 player the number of chips in a row can show how many cards can be placed in that row. One row has one chip for one card, another row has two chips for two cards, and the last has three for three cards.
On a players turn, he must take one of the two following actions: 1. draw and place a card or 2. take a card row. Then the player's left neighbor takes a turn. When each player has taken a card row, the round ends and a new round begins. A. Draw and place a card The player draws the top-most card from the supply and places it face up next in any of the rows. Players may place at most 3 cards in a row (unless playing 2 player). When there are 3 cards in a row, a player may not place another card in that row. When all rows have 3 cards next to them, a player may not choose this action. The player must then take a card row. B. Take a card row The player takes any of the rows taking all the cards in it and places them face up in his play area. The player then sorts the cards by color. If a player has taken a joker, he sets it aside for now. He must decide which color to place it with at the end of the game, but not sooner. A player may only take a row if it has at least one card next to it. After a player has taken a card row in a round, he takes no more turns in this round, but plays again in the next round. Note: if all players but one have passed, this player may continue to draw and place as many cards as he can and chooses before taking a card row and finishing the round! End of a Round When every player has taken a card row, the round ends. Prepare the row areas in the middle of the table and begin the next round with the player who took the last card row in the round just ended. End of the Game When the 'last round' marker is drawn, this indicates this is the last round. Place the card to the side to remind all players. Then the player draws the next card. At the end of the round, the players decide which color their jokers are (each may be different). Scoring: Each player counts the cards he has in each color. The table shows the number of plus or minus points a player scores for the number of cards in each color. A player scores no extra points for more than 6 cards in a color. Each player chooses which 3 of his colors score plus points. Cards Points Brown Points Grey 1 1 1 2 3 4 3 6 8 4 10 7 5 15 6 6+ 21 5 All other colors instead minus points for the player according to the table. Each plus 2 scores 2 more points. The player with the most points is the winner!
